myLot Discussions on Etta James Records| The feud that legendary, blues singer, Etta James has against Beyonce'. | | I am not one to get all up in anothers affairs. But, this issue that Etta has against Beyonce' is absurd! Etta is upset because Beyonce' sang "At Last", at the President's Inauguration on January 20, 2009. From what was told, Beyonce' did not ask Etta's permission to sing her song. Etta felt that Beyonce' should have asked her instead of being so fast to jump for this opportunity. So, now Etta is going around saying that she wants to whoop Beyonce's***. This is crazy. Etta also went on a concert somewhere and she said that the president with the big ears let that girl sing my song. People was shocked at Etta's words. They felt that she was out of line to disrespect the President as she did. And from what I know, Etta was pleased with Beyonce' playing her part in the movie. But, now she is mad about her singing her song. This is even messed up. I heard that Etta is not the original singer of "At Last", someone else made this song. She is not the original singer. I am sorry that this had to come to this bickering. I know that Beyonce' is a very mature young lady and I don't think that she will stoop the Etta's level. | | 4th row Main floor | | Well as a lot of my friends here on mylot know I went to Mystic Lake casino Tuesday evening to see Etta James in concert. the tickets and hotel room were comped. We had great seats. 4th row, main floor, just to the right of the stage. Great seats and a good line of sight as well. For being 70 years old she still kicked out the notes on her blues and jazz songs. One of the best she did Tuesday night was a song about a girl wanting to be blind insted of seeing her man leave. I think it ws called, "I'd rather be blind". She sang Randy newmans "Keep Your Hat On" She also did a great version of Janis Joplins, "Piece of my heart" She really worked the crowd as well and even put a heckler in his place to a roaring round of applause from the 2200 present. She did a few of her own hits but a lot of other artists songs. She did a Prince Song, "Kiss" and many other older R7B songs and blues. All told it was a 100 minute show that was electrified. The band was called "Roots" and it was a 7 piece lues band with 5 of them being her sons and or grandsons. My wife loved the show and we were very pleased with the great seats this time. Sounds like I should have done a revue for some paper here... | |
| | 60's R&B and jazz | | I have tickets to go see Etta James at Mystic Lake Casino April 1st. Now this woman has had her share of troubles and trials in her 50 plus year carreer. She has a CD out with songs by prince, James Brown and many other artists of the 70's and up. She is basically a R & B artist but does jazz tunes and old time rock as well. Few R&B singers have endured tragic travails on the monumental level that Etta James has and remain on earth to talk about it. The lady's no shrinking violet her autobiography, Rage to Survive, describes her past (including numerous drug addictions) in sordid detail. I am so looking forward to hearing her voice again. I have not heard from Etta James in many years and was surprised to her she's on tour again. Her raw, unharnessed vocals and hot-blooded eroticism has made disciples of singers ranging from Janis Joplin to Bonnie Raitt. James’ pioneering 1950s hits - “The Wallflower” and “Good Rockin’ Daddy” - assure her place in the early history of rock and roll alongside Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Ray Charles. | | people like to hide | | whenever I read an article about something, i like to read what people commented on the same article i read. I want to see if they agree with my point of view. But sometimes i get almost shocked at what i read. I gess some people think its ok to be racist. This article iread today about etta james being mad at Beyonce and Obama and saying inapproriate things. Anyway, I went to read people's postings and it was crazy!! | | | was your wedding everything you hoped it would be? | | i was never the kind of person that had a vision of what my wedding was going to be like. in fact, i had no intensions of ever getting married or haveing a family. BUT when i met the right guy, and he proposed, all of a sudden, i had an idea of what i wanted. i wanted a very small intimate wedding, with just our immediate family and our closest friends. well, my and my fiancees mom, were NOT accepting that. lol. they made it a huge blowout event and opened my eyes to the potential of what it could be. in the end, it turned out better than i could have ever dreamed. the church was beautiful, the hall was breathtaking.....but the most important thing, our families were there and our closest friends were there. it ran as smoothly as it could have. the only bad thing (and thank goodness this was the worst thing that happend all night) was that the dj didnt play the right song for the very last dance. i wanted to slow dance to "at last" by etta james, but he played some song i had never heard of. i was a little mad, but got over it very quickly realizing that so much worse could have happend. i had to be greatful that the whole night was the best experience i had ever had. thanks to... | |
